On Tuesday 24th February, we welcome Nigel Perera for a special night at Dots.
On this night, Nigel Perera will deliver a special hip-hop set, highlighting his turntablist roots with cuts, chops, wobbly breaks and broken beats, raw, soulful and deeply musical, blending classic influences with forward-thinking rhythm and sound.
A long-standing force in Sri Lanka’s underground, Nigel Perera is a DJ, producer and visual artist deeply rooted in funk, jazz and hip-hop, with a sound that also draws from the deeper edges of electronic music. Since emerging from Colombo’s scene in 2014, he has shaped a style that moves fluidly between hip-hop, funk, house and techno always groove-led, textured and intentional.
Beyond the booth, Nigel is an accomplished producer with releases on Jambutek Recordings, Wondermachine Music (Zurich), Wind Horse Records (Delhi), Frucht (Berlin), Berberis and Pleasure In Mind Records. His work merges contemporary electronic music with stylistic elements from the 70s, 80s and 90s, shaped by jazz, funk and a subtle minimal aesthetic. He also works closely with Asvajit at Jambutek, contributes to visual art projects, and founded the collective Control Freq.
The night begins with our traditional Dots Open Mic, hosted by Shivy, a core part of the Dots family and a pillar of Sri Lanka’s live music culture.
Known for his warmth, musicality and ability to bring people together, Shivy’s open mic sessions are built on inclusivity, encouragement and real connection, a space where voices are heard, collaborations spark naturally, and the tone of the night is set long before the dance floor takes over.
An intimate Tuesday. Real music. Real moments.
Come early, stay late
